As with most buying decisions in life, we shop around to find the best deal and to find the people we want to work with. If you are shopping around for someone to write your will, please ask those you are talking with, to answer the following questions:
- Have you qualified by passing a specific examination in Will writing, such as those of the Institute of Professional Willwriters or Society of Will Writers? What legal training have you had?
- Will you provide a list of your charges up front before you visit me? For example, if you quote £25 is this all I will pay or what can I expect the final bill to be?
- Do you see your clients and also write their wills, or do you farm out your will writing to another company?
- Are you covered by professional indemnity insurance to at least £2 million, so that if things do go wrong, you have the right of compensation?
- Are you a franchise or a consultant for a larger company, or will you provide me with a personal service from the start to the completion of my Will?
- Will I be required to pay at the first visit, or when all work is completed to my satisfaction?
- Will you return a second time so that you can ensure my Will has been signed and witnessed correctly, or are you going to post my Will with a set of instructions and hope for the best that I get this important process prescribed by law right?
We are confident you will notice the difference in the service we provide.
